Which Social Channel Brings You The Most Traffic?


If you aren't already analyzing the traffic on your website via Google Analytics, then it's time you start! We aren't saying check it every day or even once a week, but it's important to know where your traffic is coming from for a couple of reasons:

1 . You want to make sure you aren't wasting your time in social channels that aren't bringing home the bacon.

2. You want to make sure you are spending what little precious time you have in channels that are leading to sales and/or signups.

So today, we're going to show you how to view your top social referrers. First, log in to your Google Analytics account.

Next, on the right hand side, select a date range to view your data. You can select a small range, say the last week. Or you can select the last month or more.  See image below where we have selected Dec 1-Feb 13th.


Next, scroll down to the left hand side of the page. There is a section called Acquisition. Under All Traffic, you will see Channels. Select Channels. Here you will see a handful of options to dive into. The one we want is Social, so go ahead and select it. 


And here we are! Google Analytics is showing you your top referrers for traffic. Ours is Instagram with 88 sessions, followed by Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. Based on this, we can decide if we want to spend more time on Pinterest, (because boy are those numbers low), or spend more time on Instagram where most of our traffic is coming from. 


Now wasn't that easy? Google Analytics is your best friend when it comes to figuring out where to place your energy, and where not to!
